TV/Sitting/Reading/Pretty/Whatever...Room.
I thought long and hard about doing this, and I realized when we hadn't used this table but one time in 3 years...it was time to let go. Right now it's all in the garage waiting to go to some auction.
Here's the start of the room. I'm still playing with it. I just put everything in here last night.
See the sofa with the fabric laying over it? You can read about it at the end of the post.
I pulled in one of the yellow print wing chairs too.
I know for selling a home, it's nice to show a designated dining room. We may put something in here if we ever put the house up for sale.
This room really is the "formal living room". The dining room is what I call the "sunroom" now. So there's always options. This room was so much bigger than the "real" dining room. I also liked that it was at the front of the house.
And now... the chandelier still hangs over a round table :)
Here the before. It's a clean, sturdy Broyhill sofa that was home to a kitty.
Not really bad, but a few scratches on the back and some cat hair under the seat cushions.
It's all vacumed, steamed, and the wood is painted ivory now.
I'll be posting about the "before and after" of the sofa. And how the room finally turns out.
Just in time for all of the holidays and Christmas decorating.
Lots to do!!
Kelly

I'm proud of you that you were brave enough to change the space into something that you would actually use on a daily basis. Can't wait to see what the couch looks like when you are finished.
Great idea. Good for you. If you don't use the room as a dining room, then use it for something else. It really is a nice size room. Can't wait to see it all done. Hugs, Marty
I've missed you... LOVE the room. I think it's much smarter to actually USE a room... Our house has a formal dining room that's my mommy den.... Our kitchen has a huge eat in area, and that's enough dining room for me.... I know that couch is going to look amazing... Now, will you come over and kick me in the butt, so I will start on one of my FOUR upholstery projects?? Please :)
I love the change!!
Can't wait to see Before & Afters of the sofa...I just started picking upholstery tacks out of mine (which looks sort of similar). I need all the inspiration I can get!!
Kelly, seems like a much better use of the space. I hate being bound by room names and switch things up all the time. Can't wait till you finish; know it will look great.
Kelly- I know-aren't those decisions agonizing? I hope you will use the room more once you have it transformed. Can't wait to see the sofa redone. I had one years ago with that same color pattern...and the wing chairs in the coral color to match. My...how color and tastes change! hugs- Diana
Great that you can now use the room!
I love a good tease! Can't wait to see the new room completed. Did you do the molding trim on the walls? I'm preparing to do something similar in my son's room.
And I am swooning over that rug. Oh my.
I can't tell you how many times I have thought of changing my dining room into a formal living room. I actually have enough space I could have the dining room in the den and still have a den as well. Unlike you though we are actually using our dining room alot more then ever before. I just miss having a formal living room. Your transformation looks great even right down to having that light in the center of the room still. Great job! I cannot wait to see how you have transformed the couch.
That is going to be an amazing sofa when you're done with it. The new room is looking good!
Your change looks really good! And I bet it will get much more use than just 1 time every 3 years!
I am totally loving the moulding on the back wall of the room. I may copy that in my own living room - it looks really good with those pictures in there!
It's hard to believe it's the same space. Good for you though, why not get some use out of the room. It already looks so warm and inviting.
Your dining room has always been an inspiration to me and when I saw this post I originally thought, "Oh no!!!" Why would I ever doubt you and your decorating sense??? It looks gorgeous!!! I don't hardly use my dining room, but I bought the furniture with what little money my mom had when she passed away so I would have it to pass to my child. My husband and I were talking the other day about eating in there more.
You really created a beautiful area that you will use so much more! I am still in love with those moldings on those walls. So gorgeous!
It's amazing how large the room looks! Looking forward to seeing the end result...
Woman, you wear me out! Do you ever sleep? Great use of your "dining room". I need to do something quite similar! Miss you
I surely loved your dining room but I'm sure you've made the right choice for you and your family. The bay window in that room is perfect for either living or dining. Can't wait to see how it shapes up!

Pretty room~I think it's good to be flexible with the floor plan. Not everyone gives formal dinner parties on a regular basis, but everyone can use a nice sitting room every day.
So this is what you have been up to? Love it...and I have no doubt that I will be jealous of the magic you perform on her. :)
Cheers~

My mother always loves to change things around! She would love this.
Can't wait to see what happens with the sofa. Good Job!
What a neat change!
It's fun to re-purpose furniture so why not rooms? I love the idea!
I admire how creative you are in not only changing the looks for furniture but rooms also. Can't wait to see what you have in store for the transformed dining room.
Kelly, these are some of my favorite posts to read about. I love seeing when people switch out their rooms. With your talent, the room will be nothing short of stunning.

Alrighty I am waiting to see how it works out. I hate my "formal" dining room and consider it a waste of space, and I am not a formal person. My fdr has been used maybe three times in the five times that we have lived here. Hope you enjoy it. I am a new follower so that I can see how it turns out. Stop by and visit some time. Teresa
Good for you for being brave and making this change. You never know until you try what works best for your life, do you?
Susan
I love the chandelier over the coffee table! The room looks a ton bigger with all the couches and chairs in there. I love it. I am getting in the mood to do some of my own stuff now.
