A lot of you have commented that you really love all of the pleats I do on my pieces.
Well I've found a new tool and have never looked back!
This is how I make all of them now.
Angie Knowles of SIYS ~ Sew It Yourself Slipcovers invented this tool! She's in the process of marketing it right now.
She was so sweet to send me one of these...have me try it out..and let her know what I thought.
Go check out her new Slipcover Learning Blog. She's so talented and helpful. One of bloglands BEST!
Here's what I learned...
I love it Angie!!
I never have to worry about the pleats not being the same size anymore.
I use it for everything now.
I put together a short tutorial. The picture above is the tool and my strip of linen folded and ironed flat.
(it also comes in a 4") I used the 1" for mine. There are directions to use it for making "Box Pleats" too. She has a link with a video that explains everything.
Place one fork of the tool under the fabric.
Rotate it away from you like shown. Lay it down flat...pull it out and sew.
After sewing the pleat down...put one fork under again...rotate it away from you. Lay it flat..pull it out...and sew the pleat. Keep going this way all the way around the piece you're working on.
When you come to a corner, make one pleat across the corner.
Sew it down. Then put the needle down into the fabric and turn everything and keep going down the straight side of the pillow.
Adding pleats until the next corner. Repeat this with all four corners.
So you just place it under the fabric..rotate it...pull it out...and sew.
Place it under the fabric...rotate it...pull it out...and sew. It goes very fast! No pinning. No measuring.
No making your pleated piece separate and then sewing it on.
It's all done in one step thanks to Angie and her amazing tool.
Here's how they will look when you're done.
Here are the "Box Pleats" I made with it. To make these you just do the first part like above, while holding the pleat down, put the tool under the fabric again... but this time rotate it towards you. Hold it down and sew. It will make perfect box pleats!
Ahhhhh... Perfect Pleats everytime.
If you would like one,
Go See Angie She'll have one waiting for you!
Thanks For Stopping By

Oh my! I feel like I just found the end of the rainbow. I HAVE to show this to my mom {who can sew} so she can show me how to create perfection. :)
THANK YOU so much!!!
Cheers~

Just discovered your blog...it's very inspiring and I love all the pleats you put on your sofa covers etc. That pleat maker is fantastic. I'm itching to make some cushion covers with pleats, they look great.
I haven't seen that...it has been years since I had my own business, and I do have a commercial ruffler/pleater...but I think I will give this a try...thanks for sharing..looks great!
WOW Kelly! You are doing wonders with my tool! I'm so glad you love it and are really using it!
And as always, can't wait to see what you come up with next.
No way! MUST have.
My dear!
I'm so glad I found you, and this clever little tool. With your permission I will show the other person is, for all to see.
Thank Zsóka
Brilliant. I'll have to go over and have a look.
Wow, this is cool. I usually "eyeball" mine, pin, then make adjustments. I'm going to go take a look.
Angie is a genius. I have wanted to attempt those pleats for sometime, but didn't like the thought of all the pinning. Love that little tool.
What an awesome tool. If I were brave enough to sew, that would be so helpful. I adore all of your pleats. Carrie
Kelly, this is such an awesome tool. Love it. I always admire all the beautiful pleats you do and this new tool is wonderful. Hugs, Marty

I would LOVE to be able to sew this pillow. Maybe some day...sewing is on my list of things to do. :) LOVE your blog!! :)
Can't wait to buy some of these! Great tutorial.
I just wonder if I could do this. I am not good at sewing but I just might be able to figure this one out. Thanks so much
I ordered mine the day you showed them. The unopened box just came and is in my hands now! Can't wait to try it! So much for the rest of the day!
Have fun Bev! I know what you mean about "so much for the rest of the day" It's a great tool!

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I am in major swoon mode!

Kelly,
I followed a link from My Repurposed Life to this post and immediately went to Angies and ordered the pleat gadget. I've already made my first project with it, and I am NOT a sewer by any means! It came out fabulous and I wanted you to know I linked to this post and to Angies Marketplace site on my blogpost about this project. I am living proof that even a non-sewer can make pretty pleats with the quick pleater. Love your work, the chair cover with the box pleats is drop dead gorgeous!
Thanks for writing this tutorial, it was so easy to follow.
What a cool tool! The pleats are neat too!!
