This one is on the way to my sister! She let me do whatever I wanted to it. And of course it got a little pleated skirt.
We put these 2 in her tv room last weekend. I covered these a long time ago. They're down filled. $7.50 each from a thrift store! Steam cleaned of course ;)
Since then I've brought so many chairs into this house, I was ready to give these up. Of course she gladly took them!
She has this little room off of her kitchen with a nice big fireplace.
I can't wait to see it when she finishes it!
I just stuck these pillows on it. She'll get to find her own to go with her colors. White, apple green, aqua, and soft blue. Sounds pretty huh?
It was a pretty salmon/pink with little white flowers on it. It has a slight curve to the very low back.
Here's where you can see how low that back is.
Look at my big girl Sugar out there. Mama had to put her outside to get the pictures.
I love the back of this sofa. That curve is so sweet!
Funny short story about this sofa. It was in the consignment store from an auction. I asked Joe the owner if I could slipcover it before it sold. He said sure! Well I went back in to get it...it was gone! I asked where it went and he said "I just donated it to a thrift store 20 minutes ago." I said WHAT! He forgot about the slipcover. I said "why didn't you donate it to ME!" LOL.
I had already covered many pieces for his store.
Well, I went straight to the store and had to BUY it from them. They said $45.00. I told them I could have had it for free 20 minutes earlier. They came down to $30.00. Ugh!

Oh goodness - your sister is lucky!
Yikes! Thirty dollars sounds like a small price unless free had been a previous option!
Lucky sister, to have you slipcovering for her!
Wow between all three of your wonderful pieces, I bet the room will look fantastic!

Love the style of the sofa and your slipcover is stunning. You do such a beautiful job. So sad you had to buy it, but well worth the $30. Gorgeous. Your sister is so lucky. Hugs, Marty
Do you do "blogland sisters"? Here's hoping!! Lori L
Kelly, what kind of sewing space do you have? I'm so intimidated to start a large slipcover project because I have an old sewing machine and not a lot of space to lay out fabric.
Would love to see pics of your sewing area sometime...not that I don't LOVE to see your finished slips, but ya know what I mean :)
Wonderful, Kelly, and I love the chairs, too. How nice that she has a room off the kitchen with a fireplace ~ that must be wonderful in the Winter.
Hi Kelly, The sofa looks gorgeous!! Kelly can i be your sister??....Kathy
Such a funny story, still, $30 is a great deal for such a "boutique" looking sofa style. You did a wonderful job with it Kelly. Your sister is a lucky gal.
Goodness, but you are one talented woman!!! Would you be my sister?? :-)
I am beyond envious of your sister! It's a gorgeous slipcover. I love those little pleated skirts you do.
That sofa is gorgeous, i'm totally in love with it and with your work...I REALLY need to learn how to slipcover!!
Your sister is very lucky! All three pieces are just beautiful, as they would be with you making them. Even though you had to pay $30 it was still a good bargin.
I'd say even $30.00 was a pretty good price for this beauty! You did a great job slipcovering it...and your sister should be thrilled! Diana
you live by some great thrift stores is all i can say. I never see good pieces like the ones you have recovered. BTW, you do a fabulous job. I am always in awe when I stop by your blog to see what you have recovered. your sister is a lucky gal. all three pieces will look lovely in her home.

Hi Kelly! You are my all-time favorite blog! Sooo talented and gorgeous taste. What material did you use for the slipcover and pleats? You're inspired me to finally try my hand at this. I would love for you to give us a tutorial on slipcovering a sofa - from you, I would pay for that! Great, great job Kelly!!!
Stacey
Beautiful sofa! lucky sister.
Hi Stacey,
Thank you so much for your sweet complements. I probably won't do a sofa tutorial, but thanks for asking. You can find one here.

You won't be sorry. Shelly is fast, easy and very casual. She's the pro! I'm ordering one myself to get some pointers too. I think her price is VERY good! Especially to get all of her shortcuts and slipcover knowledge. I hope this helps!

Kelly, Your slipcover is gorgeous! It makes me want to learn to sew.

Kelly,
I love your blog. I am always excited to see what new project you have completed. If you decide to go into the slipcover/upholstery business, let me know. I live in Columbia and have several pieces in need of some special love.
Hi Joanne!
Thank you for your sweet words.
I am in business! About a year now. I make custom slipcovers but don't do any upholstery. If you want to talk about your pieces I'm right here in Irmo.
Thanks,
Kelly

Good Grief.. that couch and those chairs are stunning!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello Kelly,
I am so inspired after spending hours browsing your blog and others I linked to off of Pink and Polka Dot's "Slipcover Party" pages! I have accumulated at least 6 pieces of thrifted/craigslisted/picked upholstered furniture and originally planned on learning to reupholster, but I am finding the remove-and-wash quality of slipcovers so much more appealing. I was wondering if you would be willing to share your favorite fabrics for making slipcovers (I love white, oatmeal, and other neutral colored fabrics), and your resources for buying it. Heavy linen is so expensive - I would like to find some alternative sturdy, yet "easy to work with on the sewing machine" options. Thanks for any guidance you are willing to provide! - Amanda
oh, bummer about that sofa going to the thrift store and you having to buy it back, lol! Thanks so much for your sweet comment about my little round floral stool, I have decided to leave the paint chippy because it does look sweet...and beacuse it means it is now finished :)
Have a great weekend!
xx Karen
Hi Amanda,
Thanks for stopping by and finding some inspiration from my blog!
My biggest source of fabric is a woman at our local flea market. I usually clean her out of her linens.
I wait for sales at Hancock. I'm also on their mailing list and get a 40% in-store coupon each month. Their white Bull Denim is wonderful!! They also carry China Twill in "natural" which is a beautiful, cozy, soft ivory.
If your Walmart sells fabric, they carry the China Twill too.
Then we have a Hobby Lobby close. They carry white and "natural" (ivory) denim. They have a 40% computer coupon every day. I use them a lot.
Fabric.com is a good source too. They always have good sales. Get on their email list.
Last of all are the 8oz painter's dropcloths. I love working with them. I've heard Lowes now has white ones??
Just WASH ALL FABRIC before sewing. The gentle cycle keeps the wrinkles down! Wash in 3-4 yard pieces but dry each piece seprately. That will make a HUGE difference with the wrinkles too.
Hope this helps!
Kelly
Hey girl! I don't have your email address, and I wanted to ask you a question. I have 2 new to me chairs that I want to slipcover... Can I send you some pics to get some suggestions? As always I'm amazed by all the things you do!
