Vintage Vanity And Chair

I bought this vanity in 2000. It was in mint condition. It had just been completely refinished.
After a few years, and a few moves, I put it in my Mother-in-law's storage building.
Well I thought it was a safe place to store furniture.
When I got it back a few months ago it was ruined.
Venere peeling, waving, and lifting everywhere.

So what do you do???
Peel the rest off. Patch the damage with wood putty, sand, and paint it.

I did a light distressing because the mirror had always been naturally "distressed" and now they go together.
I have another "Waterfall" vanity in there too.  My husband told me it's ruined too.
It's even prettier than this piece.  I guess I'll have to get it back and take a look.

I used the original drawer pulls and found this cute little vanity chair at a thrift store the other day.
It's on Craigslist right now.  I put the set up today for $185.00.
The only inquiry I got was one of those scams where they "live too far away or are too busy to come look" but want your name and address so their "courier service" can deliver you a "bank certified cashiers check" "for more than you're asking" (hello?)  and have their "movers come pick it up"  Pahh-leeezzzee!
In fact, that's 2 scams in one week.  I have a very large cabinet on there too.
I got one of those same emails for it too.

I covered  the chair with some aqua latice print fabric I had left over from another project.  And put a little ivory linen knife pleat ruffle around the bottom.

Isn't the seat cute?!?
It opens to hold magazines or hide a little girl's treasures.

Here's one last shot.  You can see the mirror imperfections.  But I think it adds to the age and "shabby" look of it.
I wish someone wanted it.  I think it's so pretty.

What a lovely vanity, I'm in love with the vanity chair and cushion how adorable. Someone will come along and give her a good home I'm sure. Sorry to hear about the furniture damage, and scammers though. Take care, Carrie

Very pretty Kelly. Hope it sells. I can't stand those scam emails, they are so annoying.

Kelly,
for a "ruined piece" it looks fantastic!
what little girl wouldn't love sitting and dreaming in front of the big round mirror!

This is so pretty, Kelly! Was it because the storage unit wasn't climate controlled? {Or whatever they call it}. That's a shame, but I have to say you really turned your bad luck around on this transformation. I so wish I lived closer to you. I would definitely buy some of your pieces!

It looks a lot like the one I just got curbside and painted white for my bedroom. Yours is darling and what a cute chair.

GORGEOUS! I repainted a waterfall desk and chair last month for my bedroom, but haven't featured it on my blog yet....

BTW, I mentioned you in my post today. I was inspired by your pleating technique :)

Someone will want it. It's so pretty! That chair is sweet~I've never seen one where the seat lifts before.

You'd never even know it was damaged.

This looks so much like the vanity I had when I was growing up (only mine was brown). It was given to my mom on her 14 birthday and she passed it down to me. I gave it to my sister.

I love the white! It just makes it so fresh and cheery.

Oh, and you are sooo right. I don't think I've ever noticed someone's toilet before, lol!

Kelly, I just adore your work, especially your slipcovers! Which leads me to, could I please, please hire you to create a slipcover for the base of our hand-me-down, plaid sofa!! I have a family member who has overed to re-cover the cushion but she is is not way interested in the slipcover and I do not sew :( We have a 2 yr.old and really don't want to spend the money on a new sofa, but the plaid is killing our style!! Would you be able to help in anyway??
Thanks,
Christina

Hi Kelly,
Your chair is a vintage sewing chair. Sewing supplies were kept in the compartment. Great find. I'd love to have one for my sewing room.

The whole set is adorable...especially the lift-up seat! How cute! And now that I just made a pleated skirt for my latest slipcover I can appreciate how much work and fabric go into one of those. You did fabulous work, as usual.
