I've already had a lot of comments asking if I bleached my dropcloths. I didn't bleach mine. I may in the furture. I found a bunch of twin packs that all had the same pretty warm ivory color. So I didn't think I needed to bleach these.
This is my first time using dropcloths for slipcovers. I thought I would start small and work my way up to the larger pieces.
You can't beat the price of those things!!
On to the chairs.
I have 2 of these cain back chairs. The "before" was the WORST! I even attempted
re-caining...and it worked!! I'll show that post later. It's not so easy. In fact this one has lots of first time errors on it. But I knew I was going to paint and distress it, so it's ok.
I did a box pleat all the way around the arm chairs and 3 sides of the side chairs. They still need some kind of ties.
I can't take credit for this seat painting idea.
Miss Mustard Seed Was my inspiration for them.
She did her dining room chairs something like this. After seeing her's I couldn't get them out of my mind. This was one project I jumped on!
Her dining room is Gorgeous!!
Isn't that what blogging is about? Giving, and finding inspiration?
I asked her permission to copy her first. She gladly said YES! I knew I was going to follow her look as closely as possible, using what I had.
She painted the stripes on hers and them monogrammed them. Free Hand!
I knew I couldn't do that, so I stamped mine with dragonflies for the side chairs and one butterfly on each arm chair.
I put the first dragonfly to far back on the seat so I added another one which centered the 2. I sort of like 2 of them.
I put some pretty things out to go with my pretty new table and chairs.
I'm so excited about them! Miss Mustard Seed...I couldn't have done it without you.

Very pretty! I have a stool that I need to recover and might just use the drop cloth on it! Love those box pleats!

Congrats on a fabulous project! Your chair covers are gorgeous and I love the painted chairs as well. I am a follower of Miss Mustard Seed and I am sure she is flattered you choose to use an idea of hers. Such pretty, pretty dining room!
They're beautiful! The seat covers are just the cherry on top!
What a fabulous job! They look great. I love the dragonflies and butterflies.

Kelly, your talent is amazing. You make everything so beautiful. Thanks by the way for your comment. You asked about my lamps... believe it or not they were a fabulous garage sale find for $10.00 for the pair, shades and all and I LOVE THEM!

I love coming here and seeing your projects! I was inspired by your bedskirt pleating, and just completed 4 chair covers for my porch using your technique. I hope to get a post up about them (with due credit to you!) this week.
Lovely chair covers....MMS is indeed inspirational, but I can never get enough of your slips :)
Oh my but the slipcovers turned out so nice! I would also like to know if you bleached your dropcloths. The color blends so well with your walls and dining chairs. The butterflies and dragonflies really give the slipcovers pazaaz:)
Beautiful! I love your chairs and the table is gorgeous too. Great job!
Oh Miss Mustard Seed is going to be SO proud. You really, really transformed this dining room of yours. It is one of the best I have seen. I copied MMS too on my outdoor chairs. She is one talented inspiring lady. Oh, and so are you.
Wow! You did an absolutely amazing job on those! I even like the "mistake" where you put two on instead of one. Looks great! I have used drop cloths too but yours looks much whiter than my own. Did you bleach it first? Diana
Oh my goodness. The table and chairs are gorgeous and I love the slipcovers for the seats. I really want to do some for my kitchen chairs. I just may have to give this a go. Yours turned out fantastic. Hugs, Marty
The stamping makes them look so special! I am STILL working on my very first slipcover. Let's just say the seam ripper became my new BFF. Good news I that I am learning a lot, but I really really want it done.
They look so pretty! I love the stamps on them. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
Oh, Kelly. They looks absolutely beautiful. We could get our dining sets together and they would look perfect. :)
I especially love the butterfly and dragonfly stamps. That was brilliant and a finishing touch that makes these totally yours.
You'll have to share them at FFF this week.
Your chairs turned out beautifully! You did a great job! Wow! I could never do that. They're gorgeous. Love the paint job and the pleats are so elegant.
Kelly, these turned out gorgeous! I love them! I love the dragonfly and butterfly that you added to the seats, too. On a sewing scale of beginner to someone-who-actually-knows-what-they're-doing, how would you rate this? I think the pleats are a little daunting, but I think if I was patient with myself I could do it. Plus, I'd do my kitchen chairs which is only 4 {rather than 6 dining room}.
Your talent is amazing! I love the butterfly and dragonfly stamps... just stunning!
I love the stamping! The chairs are beautiful.
Kelly, those slips look so good. I love the stamps you put on them. You do such great work.
I think you and Miss Mustard Seed are both my heroes. You both are so good---and humble---about how good you are! LOVE it.
Kelly, gorgeous! And the pleats!the pleats! You know I love them.
BTW, there are no mistakes, just design changes. The butterfly and dragonfly is the perfect touch.
Okay Miss Smarty Pants.....Wow those chairs are so pretty. Been thinking about using some dropcloths, but my husband thinks it is weird! But I love the idea. Yours are so very elegant.

You may have been inspired by someone else, but you orchestrated the makeover-and what a fantastic outcome.

Kate :)
Oh fabulous... You've made them look gorgeous!!
They look great! I used MMS tutorial for my painted grainsack pillow and I bleached the dropcloth first...I loved it bleached!
They are absolutely gorgeous! Again you did a fantastic job. When do you find time? Were they easy to sew on? I made one prototype like that (not box pleat though) out of a very heavy muslin and liked it very much. Then my shop stopped carrying the fabric. Hopefully they will get more in.....or maybe I should join the club and try the dropcloths. Will cat hair wash out of that? :)
You are the slipcover queen! I so love these and everything you do. Your home is sooo gorgeous.
Thanks for commenting on my chairs. I know what you mean about finding little castors. I was lucky enough to win a stack of vintage ones on eBay (it pays to look there if you're after some) though I think a company called Lee Valley sells new ones too.
