I called my husband out and ran to get my camera so I could soom in to see what that gigantic bird was. My first thought was a large vulture or maybe an owl.
Then I saw this!!! I thouhgt "NO WAY". I knew they were around these parts, but had never seen one.
Just Look At Him!
My husband said "I just want to see it fly!"
Well, he got to, I was busy trying to focus my camera.
A BALD EAGLE!
Gorgeous!
I feel so honored to see something this beautiful in my own yard.
(Click the picture twice to see it closer.
Look at the claws on this big guy!)
Now I'll be paying more attention to my little dog that likes to stay out alone a little longer than the other two.
Wouldn't want her swooped up!

Wow! I can't imagine ever seeing one in person in my own yard! And yes, watch your dog!
that is so awesome! My husband would have gone crazy if he saw that!! :0) How cool!
Wow that is really awesome!! I have never seen a bald eagle that close!! Is it cool to watch them fly!?!? I guess we don't have those in Maryland!
They are a majestic sight. I too saw one once while driving home from work. I told my husband who said that I couldn't have seen what I thought, but, in fact, that night on the news they said that one had been spotted in the very area where I thought I'd see it. Come on, it's an eagle, I knew what I saw!
Wow how cool! He is beautiful.

what a beautiful sight! send him down to summerville please!!! ;) i can't help but notice how handsome he is and how his coloring would make for an amazing color scheme for a room. gold, dark black/brown and white. God really knows what he's doing, doesn't he? hope you are well!
that it completely awesome - I imagine you both must have been so excited! I get excited when I see hummingbirds, so I'd probably be a nervous wreck if I ever had the fortune to see such a stately creature!
They are so majestic. At my parents house on the river they have a nest and it is lovely to see them soar.
NO WAY! I have chills all over! I've never seen a Bald Eagle.... I'm just sooo shocked.
Fabulous!

Wow, he is big. That is awesome that he was in your yard. I had heard they can be around here, too, but have never seen one here. I would surely keep an eye on your dogs.
Kelly,
That is just about the coolest thing!
He is huge and so beautiful! What a blessing!

What a beautiful bird! I agree, what an honor to see such a beauty up close in your own yard.
Hi from Minnesota where the bald eagle is plentiful. I'm so glad you had the opportunity to see one. Aren't they majestic!!

holy moly, that's awesome. but you're right-definitely watch your animals closely, and tell your neighbors, too!
Wow, so cool. Definitely watch those little dogs though. We have big hawks that always fly over when we take our yorkies out. Geat captures. : ) Carrie

Wow.... how amazing KK!!! Lucky you!
Wow you were close...have only seen one from far away and it didn't look that big. We live in "California Condor" country. They are making a comeback and we hiked a few miles and were lucky enough to see five! It's so exciting to see something that wild up close. How big is your dog? I have read that bald eagles rarely swoop down on dogs or cats. Apparently they couldn't pick something up heavier than 5 or 6 lbs.

"Jacobson said an immature eagle is most likely to swoop down on something inappropriate, like a large dog on the beach. People then overreact and claim that eagles are hunting dogs. “It gets exaggerated” he said. “Eagles don’t hunt cats and small dogs.”
Hope this makes you feel safer! :)
