I Feel Like Danielle On Color Splash!

This is our master bathroom. I've put up an idea below... Also...Jan at The Boardwalk Blotter featured me and this idea today.  She has a blog full of really neat ideas!
CLICK HERE   to see what she's got going on over there!

The cabinet looks sort of black in this picture. But it's painted very dark chocolate brown. Plain and boring.  Well I was never happy with the look of it.  I saw once on Color Splash where a couple painted their kitchen cabinets dark brown.  Danielle took some gel stain and just brushed over them.  What a difference!  She said it would not come off either.  So, I first tested it on a small cabinet in another bathroom and it did perfect!! So now I'm doing these.

The pictures below are all different lighting. I'll mark the one that looks the closest to the real color.

The one to the left is the color.  Right is just to show the difference.  They aren't really that red looking.

The stain is still wet in these pics. When it dries it looks just a little softer. The severe shine knocks down a hint. I used Minwax Gel Stain in the yellow can.  The color is Aged Oak. It has no red in it at all, so it makes the good "grain" color, but it still doesn't hide the all  of the red in other woods.

And last......   Can this wall become this wall?????

Someone posted this beautiful picture. (Thank you so much)  I loved the wall!!  Now I'm in the middle of trying it.  I sure don't have that bed, but WOW! it's gorgeous.
The picture on the left is our master bedroom.  There are 2 doors going out to a patio, and a round window in t he middle.  I'm going to work this wall to look as much like the inspiration picture as possible.
Mine sure won't be as fancy though.
I'll post when I finish!
Thanks for stopping by to look!

You have definitely peaked my interest in using the gel. I painted my oak cabinets in our hallway bath a deep expresso. Maybe adding the gel would make them shine a tad but more than just a dulled color.

Also..I LOVE you inspiration photo your master bedroom. There is so much to love about that room...the detail, the color, the tranquility..and that bed is DIVINE. I look forward to your makeover.

Lastly..thank you for the guidance with the furniture. I will keep you posted. :)

Cheers~

I'm intrigued by this gel stain, Kelly. I'm wondering how it would work on oak kitchen cabinets. I do think I will use it {in black} on a pine armoire I have that I want to change up a bit. Thanks for showing how yours turned out!

Kelly, you post is wonderful. I love the idea of this gel stain, and like Kathy from Creative Home Expressions, I'm wondering how it would work on old stained wood...

Anyway, I've featured your post on the Boardwalk Blotter with a direct link back to your blog. You can see it at:

Mui bien! I have had that idea on the brain for a while now b/c we have an offer on a short sale home with parquet floors and a couple longs spans of walls I want to do that to if we get the house. Just waiting on the bank for the second mortgage to accept our offer (:

I just may have to try this with my bathroom. I need to do SOMETHING in there and am not up to sanding and primering and...all that.
