$75.00 Thrift Store China Cabinet Before and After

I loved the lines and character of this piece.  I told you in my last post about it that it's made out of that 1970's hard plastic stuff. All of the outside wood is; I guess; partical board.  I knew a coat of white paint would hide all of the 'icky' and let the shape of the piece show.

I think I'm right.  It's really a pretty piece.  I don't care what it's made of.  It's very sturdy and very well made despite the materials.

Pretty ugly huh?  But look at those curvy legs and that scrolled top.  I think the "chicken wire" on the glass is cute too.

I did a tiny bit of distressing on it.

I used these original handles on the bottom here.

I got these pretty little green glass knobs at Hobby Lobby for $2.99 each. I just stuck some of my 'stuff' in it for now.  I told my husband I want to keep this one for a while, since I have a lot of white/ivory in  the dining room. And I don't have a cabinet in there.

Well, that's it for now. Thanks for coming by to look.
Kelly  :)

That must have been a HUGE paint job. Excellent redo. I am loving the chicken wire too. It's very different.

I love this in white. It shows all the details and is still light enough not to be over powering.

Kelly,
How pretty! My grandma has a set that reminds me so much of your cabinet. I been going back and forth wether to take the set to my house and redo it, it stick with what I've got (which I love!) After seeing your redo, now I'm back to questioning again!

Well, it would be nice if you got to keep at least some of the pieces you've transformed! This turned out great! Because of what it was made of, did you do anything different to prep it or just go full steam ahead with the white?

It's lovely! Well done. I looks like a larger version of one that Holly from Life in the Fun Lane painted for me. You can see mine here:

Looks wonderful. The white paint really transformed this into a showstopper - no matter what is underneath the paint.

looks wonderful, the cream color really lightened it up, love it!

Thanks for dropping by so soon! To answer your question, I'm pretty sure ours is wood. It's quite solid and sturdy. But it was as steal just like yours, I think I paid $80.

I love what you can do with wood and a can of paint. I am so curious as to how you go about selling your pieces. I saw a bedroom set at a local flea market and immediately thought...could I pull a "much to do with nothing." As much as I love the piece..we have no room but I would love to "flip it" locally. Any thoughts you could give would be wonderful.

Cheers~

I just love thpse 1970's French Provincial pieces that have great line, but ugly details, and an ugly finish. The white was perfect for it and it looks fabulous, now.

I don't care if it's real wood, plywood, or particle board--it's so beautiful!!! Great job (love that you kept the original hardware on the bottom!)!

Did I tell you I FIIIIINALLY got to a GOODWILL store?... How heartbreaking~~~ it really WAS aLLLL JUST nasty, NASTY junk!!! I was sooooo disappointed! (Then again, I probably WAS looking for an original Renoir under a supposed paint-by-color horse pasture!!!!!!!!

Love your site. I'm happy when I see a new entry. I tried once to recover a wing chair with queen anne legs. It was nice. I found it at a garage sale for $5 and sprayed blue dye over the greenish gold color. It looked ok for a while and then it got really worn and I thought I would recover it. I made some pattern pieces with newspaper, but never really got my head around what I was doing so I gave up and put the chair on the curb!

I know how to sew and would rather "do it my way" than read a book. I want to sit down and look at your tutorial some time when I have time to concentrate.

You inspired me to redo an end table the other day, but by the time I checked back on it it was sold. wah. It was about two and a half feet square, solid wood with a drawer. I could have painted the bottom black and stained the top. It had enough details to look good this way, I think. Oh, well. Snooze you lose.

Thanks for visiting my site. My first follower!
