Pottery Barn ~ vs~ Me

This sofa costs $1,899.00 on SALE!  Or...$2,099.00  NOT on sale. Brushed  canvas slipcover. Color~Natural.

Looking a little frumpy...I delivered this slipcover to the client...put it on the sofa...snapped the picture...and left.  I didn't get a chance to smooth it out and creat the perfect picture...but..........mine cost $250.00!
It's made out of a comfy, soft, brushed denim in NATURAL.
I'm going up on my prices. Still friendly prices, but the time they take to make is worth a whole lot more.
It was my first slipcover ever, and she said she would give my name to anyone who askes. YEAH!
The thing is...I can find sofas this same shape at my favorite thrift store for about $50.00. (this one is down filled though) This could be a great business.  And it's slowly becoming one! YEAH again.

No-Sew Lamp Shade Idea

I bought 2 of these lamps at Lowe's a few years ago.  The shades were plain white.  Since they're a drum shape, the top and bottom are the same width.  This made this idea easy to do.  It will work with an angled shade too.
I found some embroidered sheer fabric at Walmart.  The swirls are a creamy, yellow/beige. If you want to try this, here are the directions.

Cut the fabric about a 1/2 inch bigger than the shade height.  Make it long enough to overlap in the back.  Get some self stick velcro.  I cut it into thin strips to fit the hieght of the fabric. Bring the 2 ends of the fabric around the back of the shade.  Stick  the velcro on to one side of  the fabric, pull the fabric as tight as possible. Just enough so it doesn't sag. Try your best to keep it straight and stick the other end of the fabric to the sticky velcro.
In other words, it's like a slipcover. It's not attached to the shade.
Last thing is take the scissors and cut along the top and bottom of the fabric  while still on the shade, to make it the exact size.  I didn't hem it or anything.
That's it!

For All Of You Who Love White

This is my friend and fellow blogger, Jessica's beautiful wreath she made.  Can you believe it starts with a straw wreath form, and ends up covered in white velvet? You can read the directions below in her own words.   Thanks Jess for ALL of your wondrful holiday decorating ideas!   You can see her whole post and hear about her adorable cats over at her AMAZING BLOG  HERE @ Jessica's Interiors, Etc.

I started this wreath yesterday, intending to put it in my Mother-in-Law's guest bedroom, but found that there was no way to hide the cord based on where the outlets were, and besides, I love it in my bedroom, so she'll get a wreath that isn't lit. I used decorations of Christmas' past; the birds, white ribbon, silver ribbon, etc., I bought white lights with white wire, which is often difficult to find, but I actually found it at the local supermarket. I had a straw wreath form, and wrapped it in fiberfill, and then cut some white velvet into strips. There was a fabric store in Wisconsin that was going out of business, and of course, I had to buy an entire bolt of white velvet. I'm down to three, white-velvet table cloths (now, two and a half). I wrapped the strips around the form, tucking the fiberfill in as I went.

Next, the white lights, then, white, sheer ribbon. I had covered the white lights, and they shone through nicely, but I was concerned about safety issues, and took my scissors, and cut slits, releasing the little lights.

The birds are hot-glued on...then, I had the silver beading, and glued it from beak-to-beak. I was hoping not to use hot glue, as then, I could dismantle the wreath when I tired of it (being the Gemini I am, I tire of things fairly quickly). The silver ribbon hides the cord, which drops behind the table.

Here's a close up. Isn't it beautiful!

I hope you go by and check her out. Her ideas are endless!

Decorating For Christmas Room By Room

The same as everyone else, I've been busy decorating the main rooms in our home.  Not only decorating, there are so many projects to finish.  Rooms are still full of work materials and boxes left over from summer company and the kitchen remodel.  I hope to share each one as we finish.

This is the foyer.  I put the sideboard in here because I'm trying to make the eye see something more than the kitchen in the entry.  I wish this could have been another view, but it's the kitchen.  The arch was almost double the size.  We had it narrowed when we remodeled the kitchen.  I've worked to make it like it was meant to be.  Using materials in both rooms that make the whole area a focal point.

Here you can see the dahlia wallpaper. I still have painting to do on the stairs, the family room, and the room around the other side of the dining room.  Getting there slowly.
Thanks for stopping by.
